Chinese Stars- Heaven On Speed Dial (Anchor Brain Rec)
Featuring former members of Arab On Radar and Six Finger Satellite, Chinese Stars are dishing out their brand of bizarre, spazzy, experimental dance-punk on October 20th as a digital only release- the 3rd full length of raw, high energy weirdness from these Providence, Rhode Island heavy weights.
With funky basslines, 4 on the floor dance beats, intricate guitar work and vocals that are somewhere between a shriek, a yelp and a sneer, it's pretty safe to say you haven't heard anything like this before. Heavy on the drums, guitars and synth, this initially comes off as a mess of noise, but upon further listening is really carefully calculated genius, perhaps forging a new genre of music. i.e. sleazy, dirty, dance punk.
If escaped mental patients listened to a lot Butthole Surfers while doing acid and meth, it might sound like something resembling this. Eccentric would be a world class understatement; this is truly beyond unique, a crazy hybrid of experimental, art, noise, dance/punk.
