Mission of Burma- The Sound The Speed The Light (Thu, 15 Oct 2009 Posted at 08:30:00 AM)

Mission Of Burma- The Sound The Speed The Light (Matador Rec)
Bands from yesterday that reunite usually make me a little wary. Financial gain, potential fame, and a host of other underlying motivations usually cross my mind, and more often than not the reunion doesn't last too long and the band goes on hiatus again. Mission Of Burma have been an exception to that rule as they've been steadily putting out great music since their reformation in 2002 after 20 years of lying dormant.
Their 3rd full length since regrouping, 'The Sound The Speed The Light' is filled with anthemic, and hypnotic songwriting, their trademark military snare drums, melodic basslines and dissonant guitar work still present. Plenty of quick paced rockers are tracked here, as are some quieter, darker themed songs, still retaining the bands patented post-punk feel.
Most of the world missed these guys the first time around; fortunately, they are back and doing just it as well as they did in the 80's, maybe even better. One of the few bands who both warrant a reunion and who are doing it the way it should be done- staying true to their roots and playing exciting, empassioned post punk.
