Beardo- Beardo (Shoot To Kill Music Inc.)
Beardo is Jeremy Gritter, a renaissance man who left a prestigious college career in Philadelphia to live in a box in Van Nuys, CA, taking odd jobs and playing in numerous bands while chasing his dream of being a guitarist in a rock band.
After establishing a name for himself around town he began writing music for Mickey Avalon, Shwayze and Dirt Nasty among others, all the while promoting his Beardo personality everyway he could. After 3 years of touring the states, spreading the word about himself on Youtube, Myspace and other social networking sites, people started to take notice. Soon rave reviews and write ups were popping up in The LA Times, Thrasher, and High Times, even an appearance on Tom Green's online show. People were starting to catch on to what Beardo was all about.
Beardo's self titled, self released Beardo CD has surpassed the 5000 copy mark, no doubt going to sell even more after his recent appearance on the 'Blazed and Confused Tour' with Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dog. With song titles like 'Girls N' Pills' and '24 Hour Party' this is first and foremost fun music, taking on arena style classic guitar riffs, drum machines and Beardo's post-hippy style approach to singing/rapping. Part rap, part punk and with an iconoclastic approach, Beardo's songs unfold like an autobiographical account of his life, topics including feeling like an outcast, fighting back against jocks, and of course first and foremost having a good time.
Tackling universal problems that everyone can indentify with, Beardo pulls off the ultimate DIY effort here, playing all the instruments, recording this in his studio apartment in LA and releasing it himself. This is a working man's punk/rap/hip hop hybrid, Beardo being the voice for everyday people.
As a reference point, think 'License To Ill' era Beastie Boys, though with a modern day feel and much more adult oriented themes.
