The Laughing Man- A Palace For Alice (Kotori Studios)
A two man collaboration between allies Micah Lashbrook (vocals, guitars, keys) and Marlin George (drums, percussion, bass), The Laughing Man's debut shows the pair genre skipping between classic rock, dub, funk, indie and folk ballads. Constantly switching gears, no two songs resemble each other here, from bouncy, upbeat rockers to slower paced, moody tracks.
Overcoming huge roadblocks to finish this project, Lashbrook's mother passed away (thus the name of the record), which changed the entire outlook of the work, turning it into a cathartic, passionate display of music, moving away from their hard rock roots. Though the intensity and heartfelt music was fueled by the loss of a parent, the record ultimately ends up being a celebration of life.
Sounding not unlike a hybrid of The Mars Volta, Sublime, David Bowie and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Laughing Man delivers songs the vary from gritty, hard hitting, danceable, and somber, and all with sincerity and accomplished musianship. There is truly something for everyone here. Available now from Itunes.
