Githead- Landing (Swim Rec)
Post punk super group Githead are slated to release their 3rd full length since their inception in 2004 on November 10. Featuring former members of Wire, Minimal Impact and Scanner, Githead have done a lot in a short time, releasing some of the most critically acclaimed music to come out of London in years.
Switching gears from their more recent art influenced efforts, this is driving, melodic, edgey rock with minimal guitar patterns, rumbling bass and hypnotic tracks with hints at shoegaze. Still with a pop template, Githead polish their post punk sound with some Wire-esque melodies, spacey vocals, and a droning sound that is likely to draw comparisons to Stereolab or Ride at some points.
The female vocals match the minimalist guitar work quite nicely, and this time around Githead polish their songs with a harder, more expansive feel, finding a great balance between conventional guitar songs and subtle experimentation.
Originally intended to be a band to play one show in 2004, Githead proved to be too powerful and naturally cohesive to call it quits immediately. With sharper and stronger songwriting with each subsequent effort since then, these luminaries are garnering a lot of praise across the pond, 'Landing' being their most accomplished work to date.
