Willkomen Suisse.....trying to get artsy with this "gates" esqu flag display.
Apparently there is tradition at the European Open that I am just now becoming familiar with, and that is blizzarding snow conditions and cancellations of contests. Since the beginning of burton's European Open, four years ago every year some event has been called due to weather and sure enought today when I woke up from my 14 hour sleep it was puking snow. Seriously, this morning there was barely an inch on the ground and now there is over 2ft.
Pretty epic for a powder day but when I made it to the Pipe to cheer on the Junior Jammers it was anything but epic for these kids, seriously knee high snow in the flat bottom, knee high to you and me but so chest high for some of these guys, and very limited visability. But that is what's so amazing about "kids these days" they don't give a eff they throw pipes open! Poor Junior Jam Kids had to drop into to this there 9's and 7's even when they are making pow turns in the tranny and can't see shizzz. Ben Watts was killing it, seriously that kid can spin backside like a champ, 9,5,7, no problem. Anyway, as exciting as the contest was I was not about to miss out on my first, or maybe second European Pow day ever! Seriously I have been coming to Europe for the past 15 years and only once have I ridden good snow.

Lesley McKenna looks on.
It was pretty deep and pretty epic and I am realzing now how totally epic and awesome it was in Utah and Colorado. Granted there was limited visability but it was pretty heavy and I just came from riding some of the light and fluffiest snow I have ever ridden, and the fact that I can even compare and mildy complain about pow is amazing, so stoked we, as in the global snowboard community, are having a great season, everyone was due for some snow. Anyway. fun times were had but when I lost Mutty, Jeremy Thompson, and Chaz, I realized that old saying "no friends on a powder day" really means powder days are not that much fun without friends. Buzzards......Chaz and Jeremy in the goggle de-fogging Bubble.
It is supposed to clear up and be blue bird tomorrow for Slope Quals and pipe practice, we'll see if this year we can break traditions and stay on schedule for the rest of the event! But that might just be get it?
