So yeah, i just got back frm my first ever real vacation, or I guess I should say this is the first time in my life that I actually needed a real vacation. I've travelled to lots of awesome places and all that, but I was so spent after this season that I dropped in on a Hawaii vacation/yoga retreat with one of my dearest and oldest friends Jennifer for a little R&R or whatever you may call it.
Beaches like these make it easy to reconnect and feel all relaxy but there is also a reason why beaches like these are empty. See below.
Jennifer and I spent most days driving through Aloha traffic to some beach spot described vaguely in an eight year old travel book between mile markers 80-100. So we had many converstations like this as we looked out onto miles of lava rubble, "I think that's it" "i'm not really sure" "it kind of looks like a path""should we try it?" "ummm, okay" some days not so good and some days like this one we actually found a path. Not too shabby but keep in mind there is no ocean in sight and the ground felt like we were walking through the worlds largest fireplace. Lava = Hot, even a hundred years after it spewed from the earth's core.
Pele spewing forth highly toxic Sulfur Dioxide
On an Island made completely of Lava it would be a shame not to go and see it in action. It is such an amazing thing to literally see the earth being made, wow that was deep, but seriously it's pretty cool.
Steam Vents
Pele, Jennifer and some random hobo, oh wait that's me.

Aloha Prices
Welcome to the Islands. Jennifer was making some comments about how expensive gas is and I agreed with her, unitl I returned home to Aspen and realized that these prices are cheap compared to the $4.40 they charge for regular here. Keep in mind that I don't have a car so I am not really all that cued into how much expensive gas is these day. Let's go veggie....
Jennifer on yet another Lava Field, pretty flippin awesome.
Green Sand Beach on the Southern tip of the Island. Jennifer and I hiked a ways for this one only to sit down on the beach and get pelted in the face with sand whipped up by the howling wind. Nothing like sand in your eyes, teeth, ears etc. to make you pack up you stuff and hike back. Yeah for adventure!
Corral and Lava
So yeah, vacation over, back to life and back to the fact that it is still snowing here in Aspen despite the fact that it's May, in my world May is supposed to be spring, ya know spring with green grass and birds etc.
Seriously does this look like spring to you?
